First photos from the Eurovision 2024 stage!

The Eurovision 2024 stage is ready – 📸 Peppe Andersson

Just two days before the technical rehearsals of the national delegations start in Malmö, the Swedish organizers have shared with us the first photos of the Eurovision 2024 stage, which is set up and ready to host the most spectacular televised music event of the year.

As the Swedish channel SVT revealed, it took almost six months to build the scene. Most of the time was logically spent on the technical details of the construction, while the last time the emphasis was on the aesthetic part.

Moving LED cubes, LED floors, the latest lighting, video and stage technology will combine to create spectacular variations in the arena. The great innovation of this particular design is that the stage is placed right in the middle of the audience, in the shape of a cross, creating a unique 360-degree experience that the audience and spectators will experience in May in Malmö.

Inside the Malmö Arena, the stage is set between 2,168 light fixtures, each of which has an LED or laser source. It took 4 weeks of pre-programming to get the lights to their final state.

LEDs are therefore an important element to bring the scene to life in all its glory. There are approximately 1,000 square meters of LED screen in and above the stage. The stage floor LED alone measures 186 square meters, while the stage LED screen measures 340 square meters.

Another dominant element of this year’s design is the 5 LED cubes hanging from the ceiling, which in total will illuminate the spectators with 460 square meters of this LED effect. And along with these cubes, 204 tonnes of technical equipment hangs from the ceiling of Malmö Arena, placed and moved via a 196 variable speed lift.

There will be a six-person stage management team in Malmö for the three live shows. To support them, there is an additional stage crew of 36 people. They will have just 55 seconds to set the stage in the perfect position for each of the 37 songs, rolling the required props onto the stage while also taking down the previous props. These moves have been carefully choreographed and preceded, just like everything else in the live performances of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest.

The creative talents behind the concept are Florian Wieder , production designer, and Fredrik Stormby , lighting and display content designer. Wieder enthused:

“I’m so happy to be part of the Eurovision family again! Putting on a great show is a team effort and I’m proud to be part of a dream team of professionals – just the right constellation of people to create something different and new. We all have the same vision of what this show should be and how to take Eurovision to the next level, and for me Sweden is always a guarantor of good music and entertainment”.
