WALES: Campaign regarding future participation begins!

Record label Coco & Cwtsh appear to have launched a campaign to get Wales involved in future competitions.

The label has signed up Sara Davies , the recent winner of the TV show Can i Gymru (Song For Wales). She, just a little while ago, released her single titled Anfonaf Angel’ (I send an Angel).

Sara will perform the track live – for the first time – in a televised program, on the night of the grand final of Eurovision 2024 .

Ffion Gruffudd , the company’s Chief Executive, posted as follows:

Coco & Cwtsh strongly believe that we as a nation have something special to offer this wonderful competition and that we shouldn’t be restricted  from having a voice on this important stage because of broadcasting technicalities.”

Ffion Gruffudd

What Gruffudd wanted to say, with this, is that under existing regulations, Wales would only be able to take part if the BBC stopped participating on behalf of the UK . More specifficaly, the country’s broadcaster, S4C , is a full member of the EBU but through its “parent” broadcaster, the BBC .

He also mentioned the following:

he aim is to build on this next year and maybe open it out into an actual competition where artists and musicians can enter their songs before deciding on what the Welsh entry would be and doing this year on year, along with an event, until we get to compete in the Eurovision as a nation in our own right.

What do you think of this Welsh campaign? Would you like to see the country make its first, ever, appearance at the event at some point?

However, Wales and Eurovision have met each other in the past. In 2018, the country participates for the first time in Junior Eurovision , which took place that year in Minsk , Belarus . Manw with Perta , performed entirely in Welsh, failed to convince and finished in 20th (last) place with 29 points . Then, the country participated the next year as well, but after another bad result, withdrew.

Stay tuned, firmly, to OGAE Greece for more information on Wales’ potential debut at future Eurovisions.

  1. Well, it’s a nice idea, but Wales is a part of the United Kingdom (so maybe we should have a kind of division similar to football: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?).
