We remind you that BTRC, the national broadcaster of Belarus, has been suspended by the EBU due to the use of the channel by the Belarusian government as a propaganda tool.
In August 2020, the presidential election in Belarus, in which incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko was re-elected for a sixth term, was the subject of widespread allegations of electoral fraud. The international observers characterized the elections as unfair and illiberal, while after the result intense protests were caused in the country. Belarus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 and participated continuously until 2020. The country was expected to participate in Eurovision 2021 as well, but was disqualified due to the political nature of the proposed entries “Ya nauchu tebya” and “Pesnya pro zaytsev” of the band Galasy Zmesta.
