Eurovision Executive Producer Martin Österdahl made statements at yesterday’s EBU and BBC Media press conference at the Press Center in Liverpool, regarding the planning for the Eurovision spin-off shows.
It’s not good news for Eurovision Canada , as Österdahl said that the original plans did not work. We remind you that the Canadian sibling of Eurovision was planned to air in the fall of 2023. It would involve 13 states and regions of Canada, which would compete in 2 semi-finals and a final.
With the road to Eurovision Canada closed, the efforts for Eurovision’s siblings in the Americas are focusing again on the American Song Contest . Major television network NBC has canceled the music competition after its first season, in 2022. But the EBU, led by Martin Österdahl, is refocusing there and setting out to resurrect the project, with different partners this time:
It should be noted that the winning song of the 1st (and only) American Song Contest, “Wonderland”, had a strong European color, as a key member of the composers’ team was Cazzi Opeia (Moa Carlebecker), known from Melodifestivalen 2022 and ninth in the final, but also a key member of Loreen ‘s “Tattoo” composers’ team!
