The already epic participation of Moldova in Eurovision 2010, ‘Run away’ by Sunstroke Project , becomes an international success, 13 years after their Eurovision appearance!
The song is already a classic for Contest fans, mainly because of the band’s saxophonist Sergey Stepanov, aka Epic Sax Guy. The solo saxophone part dominates the track and is the main reason behind its success.
Sunstroke Project announced on their Instagram account that ‘Run Away’ has just climbed to no. 10 of the Shazam Global Top 200 chart !

They owe this success mainly to the American continent, which has now discovered the Epic Sax Guy and his totally infectious sax riff. In fact, in the Shazam US Top 200, ‘Run away’ is currently at no. 40, while in Australia at no. 54. Let’s also see the countries in which it entered the Shazam top 10 this week:
- no. 2 – Peru
- no. 4 – Ecuador
- no. 5 – Chile
- no. 7 – Argentina
- no. 9 – Venezuela
- no. 10 – Mexico
In total, the song currently counts 2,092,807 Shazams!
In addition to the Shazam Chart, ‘Run Away’ seems to be doing well on the iTunes charts as well, where it is for December 2023 at no 79 on the Global chart! In other countries, it is at no. 21 in Italy, at no. 52 in Spain, at no. 67 in France and in no. 79 in Australia.
If you assumed that it was all because of TikTok , the platform that has hosted several Eurovision songs and made them international hits, such as ‘Arcade’ (Duncan Laurence), ‘Think about things’ (Dadi Freyr) or ‘Snap’ (Rosa Linn), you are wrong. So far, ‘Run away’ has been used in only over 2500 videos on TikTok. But we’ll have to wait and see how much more popular the 2010 song can become now that it’s starting to spread there.
Sunstroke Project will perform at the Nordic Music Celebration , another pre-Eurovision event organized for the first time this year, on April 20 in Oslo. However, we may see them in other pre-parties as well.

‘Run Away’ by Sunstroke Project featuring guest singer Olia Tira on lead vocals, finished 22nd in the Grand Final of Eurovision 2010. Sunstroke Project returned to Eurovision in 2017 with ‘Hey Mamma’ and managed to reach 3rd place – Moldova’s best result in the Contest so far.
