The official list of countries that will participate in Eurovision 2024 has not yet been announced. The EBU stated earlier this week that there are still ongoing precedures and the announcement will be made later, when everything is settled.
Bulgaria, after a run of several successes during the last decade in the competition (2nd place in 2017 with Kristian Kostov , 4th place with Poli Genova in 2016, 11th place with Victoria in 2021), made a surprise exit last year. The paradox was that no official announcement was made about the withdrawal. However, the account of the state broadcaster BNT on X (Twitter) ‘ BNT Eurovision ‘ had a central role in the matter.
After Intelligent Music Project’s participation flopping in Eurovision 2022, BNT Eurovision posted that “We are no longer interested in the Eurovision project” . At the same time almost all the posts of 2022 were deleted and the account unfollowed everyone. Then, silence for a year and a half.
But last month, a post appeared about “an important announcement about Bulgaria’s participation in Eurovision 2024 on November 25th” . The post was taken down after a few hours. This was followed by a repost of Victoria’s statement (2020, 2021) about her desire to participate in Eurovision again. And one more post this week, news about this year’s contest slogan:
“United by music” will be the new permanent slogan of the Eurovision Song Contest, regardless of the host country. Performers from around 41 countries share the values of the competition every year.
The number 41 is very specific and suggests that the people responsible for the BNT account know something. New information emerges, still remaining to be confirmed, about two female artists that have approached BNT with their proposals for Eurovision 2024: Victoria and Poli Genova !
