Misija Malmö , the show to present Slovenia’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, aired a while ago. Tiln Artač was the host of the evening, which was broadcast on RTVSLO 1.
The show featured Raiven herself and her journey in the music industry. There was a retrospective of her song catalog and she performed with several special guests during the evening. But the highlight was the release of ” Veronika ” and the official music video.
The story behind the song
As we told you , the song is based on Veronika Deseniška (Veronika of Desenice), the second wife of Frederick II, Count of Celje. Veronica was a commoner and Hermann II, Frederick’s father, did not initially approve of the marriage. He kidnapped his son and accused Veronica of witchcraft, of which she was later acquitted. Raiven herself stated:
The song was not written with the idea of going to Eurovision. In creating it, I focused mainly on the dramatic quality, which is the key to telling Veronica’s story effectively. I wanted her story to not only be expressed, but to resonate in 2024. The idea that she needed the music, which was right – cinematic and contemporary – was present throughout the creative process.”
Raiven for creating the song
The song was written by Raiven herself, as well as last year’s country representative Bojan Cvjetićanin (frontman of Joker Out ), in composition and lyrics. In the lyrics and Klavdija Kopina .
Bojan is a very good friend of mine. We often talked about creating something together and our musical collaboration with Veronika came about very spontaneously.”

But why did they choose to perform ” Veronika ” in Slovenian? Raiven herself answers us:
I don’t think this kind of song needs English for Eurovision. I am convinced that both the story and the music are powerful and expressive enough that their essence and emotional depth can be perceived and understood even by non-Slovene speakers.”
But who is Raiven?
Raiven is no stranger to pageant fans. He first gained widespread recognition while competing to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 for Slovenia during the Eurovizijska Melodija (EMA) national final with the song ” Črno bel “, where he placed second. Raiven returned to EMA in 2017, placing third with the song ” Zažarim ” and competed again in 2019 with the song ” Kaos “, again placing second.
Last year Slovenia was represented by Joker Out with the song Carpe Diem, having also been selected by direct assignment. They managed to comfortably qualify for the Grand Final , but there they were limited to 21st place with just 78 points .
