KOSOVO: RTK will soon send a request to the EBU for participation in Eurovision

Kosovo – Eurovision

The National Broadcaster of Kosovo, RTK, is very soon to submit its request to the EBU in order to make its Eurovision debut.

As you first learned through www.ogaegreece.com , RTK participated in the General Assembly of the EBU, held in Geneva, at the beginning of December 2023, and then the relevant tweet of @ESCKOSOVO caused excitement among Eurovision fans!

According to RTK‘s press release, this show is expected to be repeated in 2024, with the hope that its winner will be able to represent Kosovo at Eurovision 2025.

As in the first edition, the Board will be a strong supporter and will play a proactive role in the entire work process. RTK will soon submit its application to the EBU for the winning song to represent Kosovo at Eurovision. We are optimistic that the winning song of the second festival in a row will represent Kosovo in this international competition.

It should be noted, according to earlier statements by the Kosovar Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, that Kosovo’s participation in Eurovision is of key importance for the citizens and the younger generation, who have the need to feel that they belong somewhere culturally and wish to get out of international isolation.

It is worth mentioning here that as early as 1999, when the war in Kosovo ended, the EBU contributed catalytically to the creation of RTK , which is today an associated member of the Union and has a series of agreements with it regarding various broadcasting services. However, until now it had not been given the green light to compete in Eurovision, as while some countries expressed their support for a possible participation of Kosovo in Eurovision, others strongly oppose the idea, even threatening to withdraw.

Therefore, Kosovo’s desire to compete in Eurovision does not necessarily mean how it will compete. However, RTK’s intention is a ray of light in an era in which Eurovision seems to be losing participants for various, mostly non-musical reasons.
