ISRAEL: The premiere of "The Next Star For Eurovision 2024" is postponed after the death of 2 soldiers!

Last week, Israel’s Keshet 12 announced that they will continue with their Eurovision 2024 featured show “The Next Star” . In particular , he had planned to broadcast the first show, today, Tuesday, October 31 .

But this Tuesday evening the broadcaster announced it was suspending the show following the death of two Israeli soldiers during fighting in northern Gaza.

“In light of the news, The Next Star will not be broadcast tonight. Our hearts go out to the families.”

The producers have faced a lot of negative publicity since the announcement that they will air the show. Many Israelis believe now is not the time to celebrate as the country mourns its losses and also the loss of thousands of innocent lives in Gaza.

Keshet 12 had characterized the show as a way to give the audience a chance to focus on something else, if only for a moment. As Euromix explained at the time, hosts Assi Azzar and Rotem Sela appeared in an ad saying the following:

“After many weeks… we feel it’s time to take a breather and take solace in something a little different. There’s no doubt that of all things in the world, music is the simplest and most profound way to connect and lift us up, which is why we’ve decided to go ahead with The Next Star’s Eurovision season launch.”

“It won’t be a normal start to the season. It will adapt to the situation, but we’re sure a little music can only help. Next Star for Eurovision starts the journey with small steps, at the end of which we will have an Israeli representative who will show the whole world who we are.”
