Victor Vernicos: “Our stage presentation will be minimal”!

The Greek representative, Victor Vernicos, revealed his thoughts about the stage presentation of “What They Say” and his goals in Eurovision. In an exclusive interview on SKAI TV and Maria Bakodimou’s show “Geia sou”, filmed before the announcement of his selection for Eurovision and aired now, he answered the questions of the journalist Konstantinos Artsitas and revealed very interesting information about his participation!

Firstly, Victor said that he is very excited to represent Greece in Liverpool – at the “Land of the Beatles”. After he mentioned how he got the idea to go to Eurovision:

I loved Eurovision since I was very young. The first song I sang LIVE was from Eurovision, Mans Zemerlow’s “Heroes”, when I was 8 years old at a camp. I composed “What They Say” when I was 14 and produced it myself. It was my favorite song that I wanted to release and promote in Europe and I thought the best way to do that was to represent Greece.

Victor referred to his involvement with music, which began at the age of 4 with piano lessons, at 8 he started vocal lessons, and at 10 guitar lessons. He also took music technology lessons when he was 11 years old. Then, he started writing his songs and doing their productions.

For my stage presentation, I’m thinking of something more minimal because that’s the style of the song.

When asked if it makes him nervous to be on a stage where millions of viewers will be watching him, Victor said that he is excited about being on the Eurovision stage. On that stage, he wants to be able to get that feeling across to the audience.

The first Greek entry in 1974 with Marinella and “Wine, Sea and My Boyfriend”, and of course the winning entry by Elena Paparizou, are Victor’s favorite Greek entries from Eurovision.

For sure the audience is huge at Eurovision and I want to do the best for Greece. I am not nervous about the reviews. I don’t read them or if I happen to read them I know that we are all different and we can have different opinions.

The first who listened to “What They Say” was his father, as he does with all the songs Victor composes. This, he said, was the favorite song he had ever heard from him. His parents are very supportive of him. As for his relationship with the famous photographer Marina Vernikou, Victor said, that she is his aunt since she is his mother’s cousin.
