A twist is coming from Paris today as France Televisions announced that their representative in this year’s Eurovision will be La Zarra!

Although France had originally announced that they would be organizing a national final again this year, they finally opted for an internal selection

A few words about La Zarra!

As we had written in a previous article, her name was strongly rumoured to be a contender from last year’s French national final, because of a story of her with the Apollo Theatre stage and the colours of the French flag.

First of all, the singer is originally from Canada and Morocco. Her real name is Fatima Zahra Hafdi.

Moreover, she has already released one album and two singles. In 2021, she was nominated at the NRJ Awards in the Breakthrough of the Year category.

The first reaction of La Zarra, after her selection by the French national broadcaster is the following:

“I am very proud to have the chance to perform my song in front of millions of viewers around the world. Ι am a great admirer of the most beautiful French voices such as Edith Piaf, Barbara, Dalida, Céline Dion and I am so excited to make Europe discover my song. I am very honoured to represent France at Eurovision, the most iconic song contest in the world.”

Also, the Head of Delegation, Alexandra Redde-Amiel, has also commented about La Zarra and her participation in Eurovision 2023.

“La Zarra is self-taught and has built everything. She spends hours in front of videos of Mylène Farmer and Céline Dion in concert, dreaming her life as an artist, And, today, it is for France that her heart beats and that her art vibrates, where the free woman and the most imperious of romanticism were invented. A sublime and unforeseen love story that she has been living since her arrival in the capital, a city of possibilities, like a dream too strong not to wake us up.”.

What do you think of the singer that France has chosen for Eurovision 2023? We look forward to your comments.
