UMK24 is already in the works and will be even brighter than UMK23 ! Today the rules for the new season were released and the submission window was finalized:

UMK RULES ARE NOW RELEASED! 💜 💜 What kind of song and who can apply? How is the competition going? Grab the rule book with both hands and submit your song to compete for UMK’s victory and Finland’s Eurovision Representative spot. Rules can be found on our website yle. and / umk. ✨

This is how the Finnish channel YLE started the call for the new year of the UMK national final, already today, May 24th .

The very day after Eurovision 2023, YLE announced the national final will keep the same format as in 2023 . The national final through the UMK (Uuden muziken narvale, Competition for new music) will again be the way to select the Eurovision representative. The submission window will be open from 21 to 24 August 2023 .

As the bosses state, they believe they need to allocate even more time to prepare the national final with even greater success. So, while the rules remain the same, the entry window has been moved to the end of August, where it used to be in early September. Also, any songs selected for the final 7 must submit the final high quality studio version by October 20th, 2023 .

UMK24 will therefore again be an open process. The regulations were already posted earlier today HERE . Some points of the regulations worth noting:

  • The song submission window will be from August 21 to 24, 2022
  • The main singer can send up to 3 songs, but in the final he will only be able to participate in one.
  • For the creators (composer/lyricist), but also for the other band members besides the lead singer, there is no limit to the number of entries.
  • The artist who is heard in the submitted demo is obliged to sing it himself in the UMK final.
  • A submitted song is not allowed to participate in another national selection at the same time.
  • At least one lead singer or composer of the entry must have Finnish citizenship or be a permanent resident of Finland.
